Four months from today (thats 122 sleeps😬) we leave Australia, our home for the last 10 years, and take off for one year to experience life somewhere else for a while. For the first 6 months Sri Lanka will be our new home. We’ve never been but only ever heard great things….great food, great people, amazing scenery, plenty of yoga, great surf, and cheap! Sounds perfect to me😎. It’s been 10 years since we travelled and we’re keen to do it now before Rocky goes to school and we’re locked into the system! We’re so lucky to be able to do this and I intend on grabbing it with both hands and making the most of every day!
So here I am, the girl that failed English at school, attempting to write a blog! What do I hope to gain from writing a blog? Well, since having Rocky I’ve quickly realised that life is moving quicker than ever, and I wish I’d started this earlier. It’ll be a diary for us to look back on and a great record of our time away. It’s something for me, too. Therapeutic perhaps? Or is that wishful thinking😂. I hope I can also provide a few tips and tricks along the way for others travelling with a toddler, I’ve only been on Instagram for a month and already found some great tips myself.
Its going to be very different to the first time I travelled, before the days of FaceTime when you had to dial about fifty numbers in a pay phone to call home. And there were no iPhones to google the nearest coffee shop or accommodation, the good old Lonely Planet book got you to where you were going. And if you were lost? You’d pull out the map of the local area which you’d picked up at a tourist information desk, and actually find your way yourself. I remember being in Sydney with my best friend, and completely loosing each other in the crowds by the opera house, I hung around for over an hour trying to find her and eventually gave up at went back to the backpackers we were staying. She was there of course, because that was the only option, we couldn’t call each other or text, or even use Facebook messenger. It would’ve been a different story today.
So this time I’m older (yes old enough to have travelled before internet was around), wiser (maybe?!), and have a toddler on board. And i’ll still be travelling with the lonely planet, but i’ll definitely be complementing it with some up to date devices..!
I can’t wait to hear about all of your adventures, but we are going to miss y’all so much!

Looking forward to reading all about this – we are planning a similar adventure in a few years when our (unborn, due in June) second is 2 or 3 years old. Can’t wait to see how you get on and pick up a few tips!
